Drago – Santa Monica

We have been going to Drago for years and years. Celestino Drago is a most gracious host and chef. He is the quintessence of a gentleman.

Arancini and Bruschetta with Chopped Tomatoes and Shaved Parmesan- this is always served to us as an amuse. A lovely beginning to the meal.

Beef Carpaccio,  Summer Truffles, Pears and Parmesan Cheese Salad – excellent

Parma Prosciutto, Spek and Salami served with Fried Bread – the fried bread is addictive and I could eat a basket of these.

Polenta Sandwich, Mushroom Ragu and Cheese Fondue – very, very rich, but delicious

Wide Pappardelle in a Pheasant and Morel Mushroom sauce – toothsome pasta and not over-sauced or served the correct way

My husband always orders his pasta as a split so he can have both the Spaghetti with Cured Tuna Eggs (Bottarga) and the Risotto

Pan-Roasted Wild Boar Chop, Dry Figs and Star Anise Sauce – portion size was huge.

Drago has been a fixture in Santa Monica for years and even though Celestino’s empire is expanding, this still delivers solid food with excellent service.

Good Wednesday to you again, Lizzie.

The beef carpaccio and the prosciuttto just added some much needed protein to my diet. I could live on those two every day 🙂
